Statement
I draw the female body as an interior space, something that expands and accumulates rather than holds a fixed shape.
The work is small, pencil on paper. In it, anatomy becomes elastic, boundaries soften, and the erotic stays quiet. Less spectacle, more sensation.
The work started with becoming a mother, and has grown into a wider curiosity about creation itself. How a body holds and releases. How one life opens inside another. How a person keeps expanding long after the pregnancy ends. Pencil fits this. It builds slowly, pressure by pressure. The small scale keeps the drawings close to the body that made them.
What I want is for the viewer to feel possibility. To sense that a body, a life, is more than what meets the eye.

María Monegro (b. 1990, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a visual artist based in Catalonia. Her current practice centers on small-format pencil drawings that approach the female body as an interior, expandable space.
